“Threads”
Acrylic/Thread on Canvas: 4” x 4” Canvas threaded with 9” x 12” Canvas
This piece explores the small and often invisible moments that define community and human connection. The paintings are joined together by the vibrant orange thread sewn across the canvases, a colour often linked with social interaction and enthusiasm. These threads are a physical representation of the unseen ways neighbours support and help each other in times of need. The threads pull you between the two paintings, guiding you through the full story. The threads aren’t always perfect, a metaphor for the imperfect bonds in community and relationships, sometimes tangles and messy, and sometimes tight, holding us all together.
Although cliche, it’s something I experienced growing up, often running next door to borrow eggs or sugar mid-recipe, and in this case, making a child’s birthday possible. I hope this piece asks us to consider, what invisible strings made life possible in our own communities today?
